We've just come back from enjoying another fantastic weekend at Bramham horse trials... OK, so we only go to Friday's dressage & Saturday's cross country, but coming from around the Bramham area, I make sure we always make a weekend of the trip away. Take a read through our 2016 Bramham Horse Trials post to see what we thought last year too!
Dressage day
The weather hadn't been great all week, so I had everything crossed for nice weather to enjoy the dressage. My luck was in - glorious sunshine for most of the day. We had a small shower mid-morning, but after that, it was a perfect day for watching some beautiful dressage tests & enjoying the Pimm's!!
We saw a number of the top combinations do their test, including watching Gemma Tattersall & Quicklook take the lead in the CCI3* on a score of 36.7!
Also doing their tests across both the CCI & the CIC3* was Ben Hobday & Mulry's Error, Pippa Funnel & Sandman, Laura Collett & Mr Bass, as well as Zara Tindall & Fernhill Facetime, and Ludwig Svennerstal & Stinger.

We also enjoyed watching some of the baby horses enjoying life in the BYEH 4yo & 5yo classes.
At the end of the day, we had a wonder around the shops - there's lots of shops! ❤️
I had a few things on my shopping list for both Louie & I, so much to Andrew's annoyance, we got on with the job and had a good dig through everything and anything!!
Cross country day
The next day we headed back up to Bramham for cross country day! My favourite....
The CIC3* showjumping started in the main arena at 8.30am so to avoid the queues to get in, we arrived just before the start. We also wanted to watch upcoming local rider, Jay Ryder and her horse Black Boy Clover. Watching the class, there were a lot of combinations that seemed to finish on 4+ jumping penalties and/or time a few time faults. It was fantastic to watch Jay rider a smooth round and finishing without a time or jumping fault.
After Jay, we headed out to watch some of the combinations in the CCI3* on the cross country course.
The course looked as good & tough as all the other years that we've been, with a couple of changes at the Equitrek fences, as well as a slightly different path coming from the Leap of Faith through two corners before heading to the terrifying looking Hollow! The was also a few changes at the water, as well as the direction over the Sun and Moon olympic fences.
Magic, making half the horse disappear!
Peek-a-boo!
Leap of Faith
Gemma Tattersall & Quicklook speeding past!
Jesse Campbell galloping out after the KBIS fence
Saturday didn't seem as busy as normal, but was a bit of a wetter day too. It did mean that you could watch a bit more, and navigate your way around the shops a bit easier!
Enjoyed reading our 2017 report of Bramham horse trials - pin the post using the graphic below!
It's a good family day out, whether you're into horses or just like the fresh air - there's something for all ages (sweets, ice creams, play areas, shops, and of course all the horsey bits!)
Looks like so much fun! I love photographing dressage but cross country is hard to capture well- and so much more exciting to watch as well. We recently had the Jersey Fresh International event, which was a lot of fun for the whole family.
I've never even heard of this. Looks like a great day. Xx

ReplyDeleteIt's a lot of fun!! I'm the opposite - I find dressage hard to capture but cross country much easier!
