The Inspiration Behind The Latest Equestrian App, EquiNation

I recently published a blog showcasing the best horse apps that I believed every equestrian needed. There are five in the list, but that list will soon expand to six as the equestrian world will see the launch of EquiNation, developed to connect horse riders & owners with equestrian professionals locally & globally. The app is due to launch on 1st June 2020, but I've been chatting to the lady who's taken her own frustrations to create the inspiration to bring this app to life, Amna Ahli.

So, I'll hand over to Amna to introduce herself and tell you more about EquiNation in her own words!

Hi & thank you for taking the time to discover more about me & my new app. I am Amna Ahli and I am the creator of the brand new equestrian app called EquiNation. I'll start by telling you a bit about myself, where the idea for the app came from and also a little bit about what the app will offer you. EquiNation has been developed to bring together equestrians and people in the equine industry to make it simple & easy to find and connect with all the people you need to help ensure the best care and training for you and your horse.

So a little bit about me...

I grew up in the UK, where I was pony mad from a young age, despite being from a very non-horsey family. Luckily my parents allowed me to take riding lessons & bought me my first pony for my 10th birthday. From then on I participated in anything and everything equestrian!

I joined the pony club and joined in with their quiz team, as well as having a go at Mounted Games, Polo Crosse, Showjumping, Dressage, Eventing, Hunter Trials, Le trek, Triathlon and Showing. Eventually, it became time to go to university and I sold my horse & for the next 3 years, I only borrowed rides during the summer holidays.

After I graduated university I decided to travel & work abroad, moving to Ras Al Khaimah in the United Aran Emirates (about an hour outside Dubai). For the first year, I had nothing to do with horses, but after I decided I was staying in the UAE a bit longer, I started to look for somewhere to ride. For anyone who has ever tried to search for something horse-related online, it’s a difficult task with often lots of results showing up that are not relevant. I eventually found a stable I liked, however, it was an endurance stable - a discipline I had never done before. But I started to train and ride, qualifying at 40km, and 80km before eventually competing at 120km. This is where I found my first horse - an ex endurance horse, with freeze burnt legs, no passport and no idea how old he was, but he was cheap, had a good eye and a sweet temperament.

I took a chance on him and decided to teach him to jump, which he absolutely loved. He was incredibly brave and within 2 months of owning him, we were competing at the nationals 1m classes. It was at one of these shows that I caught the eye of my husband and long story short, we ended up getting married. Now my husband is an International Show Jumping rider and trainer, competing at 5* all over the world and on Nations Cup teams.

With the support of my husband, I sold my retrained Arabian racehorse and was given the ride on a 17.1hh showjumping stallion. This is where the ides for the app really took off.

As the wife of an International competitor, it fell to me to organize everything for the horses. Arif travels with his horses to Europe every summer to compete when the weather in Dubai gets too hot, so I had to organize travel, places to stay, farriers, vets, and therapists, which is an impossible task.

Have you ever booked a hotel for you? That’s easy right, there are apps for that. For horses? Definitely not! I would spend hours trawling the internet, opening and closing pages looking for places with short term availability, in the area we wanted with the facilities we wanted, and it was completely time-wasting. I started to think 'why is there not one place for all things horsey?' & 'why is there not an app for finding stables the way there is for finding hotels?'

I'm often asked for a lot of recommendations and advice for dentists, farriers, feeding, etc, based on the routines of my husband's horses, and I thought about how great it would be if you could go to one place and find all those things. You'd be able to look at pictures, see if they are available in your area and chat with the other people, all on one equestrian platform. This eventually expanded to include bit and saddle fittings, as well as equine photography and holidays.

The idea of the app formed to help the equestrian world to bring all things horse together in one place!

The EquiNation app will be launched on the 1st June 2020 & will be free to download and search, although there is a small monthly fee to add your business listing. Simplify your life and interactions in the equestrian world with everything you will need in one place by downloading the app onto your devices from the launch date. I hope you have enjoyed learning all about me, my inspirations and the EquiNation app.
